Die making declined during the end of the 1970's and the company eventually closed that facility in 1982 to concentrate upon the production of sheet metal pressings and sub-assemblies. The company’s marketing activities was also split into (PAD) Pressings and Assembly Division, (AED) Automation Equipment Division, Water Saver System and Security Division to clearly identify it’s specialist engineering activities. This division of the company also changed the management structure and many new people were recruited to fill these added job vacancies. As the company name no longer reflected the business activities undertaken at their Harlescott site, they changed the name in 1984 to Stadco, the acronym of Shrewsbury Tool & Die Company.
