Hall Engineering employed as many as one thousand personnel in the mid 1960’s and the company had gained an excellent reputation for manufacturing and general engineering. Rolls Royce was considered to be the premier engineering company in Shrewsbury and the Sentinel apprentices in 1967 would look down upon us in the second division at Halls. However, the new recruits at Halls during that year, including myself were more interested and excited about their future with the firm to worry about the league tables. Norton Asquith Ltd located on Featherbed Lane was the other engineering firm in the town and they designed and manufactured Grinding machines for customers at home and abroad. It was the custom for workers to frequently move in between factories in those days just to gain a higher rate of pay.
The web site will hopefully provide an insight into the development and history of Hall Engineering over the years. I’ve tried to be factual, but also light hearted and visual so that it is easy reading for all visitors to the site. My name is Dave Jones and I joined Halls in September 1967 as an apprentice electrician and served thirty years with the company. I was fortunate to experience working on the shop floor as an electrician during the 1970’s and then in electrical design from the 1980’s involved with all the technological changes that occurred in the industry and working on large projects in the UK and abroad .
